EAL, the major awarding body for vocational qualifications in the engineering, manufacturing and technology sector, launches its new-look Web site: www.eal.org.uk. The redesigned site offers a fresh style and new features, aimed at giving quick and easy access to meet users' information needs.

The EAL Web site is designed for all those interested in vocational qualifications and skilling the workforce within the engineering, manufacturing and technology sector – including learners, employers, colleges, Group Training Associations and private training providers.

New and improved features include:

  • easy navigation – through a new site map and quick topic search facility.

  • qualification search – the facility to search EAL's complete portfolio of qualifications by level, name, type, sector or any combination of these.

  • live and constant newsfeed – relevant articles updated daily.

  • case studies – new examples of best practice in England, Scotland, Wales and overseas.

  • EAL news section – all the latest EAL news, including updates on new and revised qualifications.

Active centres accredited to offer EAL qualifications will be able to access a VIP area with a unique username and password to obtain qualification materials and key documents.

The Web site will bring important new services to customers early in 2004, including online candidate registration and certification and an online qualification component checker. Centres will also be able to interrogate candidate data via the web and offer VRQ and Key Skills candidates more frequent online exam opportunities.

Changes to the Web site are the product of months of development. They reflect the growing importance of the web as a communications medium and the increased needs and expectations of users. EAL Managing Director, Elizabeth Bonfield, said: “Through surveys and by talking to our staff, customers have told us they want a site which holds current, relevant information and provides easy access. We have therefore placed a lot of emphasis on the presentation of content, navigation and usability of the site. We shall continue to monitor the use of our Web site to ensure it gives customers, potential customers and other stakeholders what they need.”
