Hardide Coatings appoints Aerospace

Business Development manager for UK and Europe

Surface engineering technology company, Hardide Coatings (AIM: HDD), which recently announced plans to fast track its move into the aerospace sector, has appointed Paula Roughley to spearhead its sales drive in the UK and Europe.

Roughley brings ten years aerospace and defence industry engineering and sales experience, joining from Ultra Electronics where she worked since 2001, latterly as Sales and Marketing Manager responsible for all of the company's civil aerospace and transport aircraft accounts. Previously, she was Programme Manager where she managed aerospace and defence industry programmes from concept to production. Between 1995 and 2001, she progressed through various project and senior engineering roles at Weston Aerospace and Corin Medical Limited.

Roughley holds a BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sunderland, an MSc Materials Engineering from Loughborough University of Technology and an MBA (Management) from the University of Reading.

Neill Ricketts, UK Managing Director of Hardide Coatings Limited, said: “Paula brings a powerful combination of aerospace sales and engineering, and materials experience together with a strong portfolio of industry contacts. Building on the BAE Systems approval which we secured last year, she will be advancing our industry accreditation and registrations programme including AS9100, as well as developing new business and progressing ongoing customer trials.”

Hardide Coatings has developed a unique tungsten carbide-based coating which offers an unprecedented combination of ultra-hardness, toughness, low friction and chemical resistance when applied to components made from steel, alloy and other materials. It is compliant with the new EU REACH regulations and is viewed as an attractive possible alternative to hard chrome and HVOF. The patented coating is widely used around the world in aggressive wear or chemical environments primarily in the oil and gas, valve, pump and aerospace industries.

Its unique combination of properties include:

• up to 3,500Hv;

• accurately controlled thickness ranging from 5 to 100mm;

• resists 3,000 microstrain deformation without damage to the coating;

• binder-free;

• nano-pore, dense, homogeneous structure;

• superior bond strength due to chemical bond;

• low coefficient of friction;

• excellent anti-galling properties and can be used against itself without galling concerns; and

• satin-like “as-coated” surface finish.

Hardide Coatings Limited is a Hardide plc (AIM: HDD) company. The company has production plants in Bicester, Oxfordshire, UK and in Houston, Texas, USA.
