E-A-R Specialty Composites Division of Cabot Safety Corporation, Indianapolis, has developed a new family of aircraft skin damping composites that meet the most stringent FAR burn test (flammability) requirements. The materials provide light weight and high damping performance on fuselage skin, bulkheads, and thin composite panels for all aircraft types.

E-A-R's aircraft skin damping composites combine the company's damping sheets and foams with an aluminium constraining layer and pressure-sensitive adhesive. Several different formulations are available, each tuned to specific temperature and damping requirements. Potential customers include manufacturers of general aviation and commercial aviation aircraft.
