Solartron takes flight with Concorde

British Airways Avionics Engineering (BAAE) has recently acquired a Solartron 1253 Frequency Response Analyser to test the air intake control units (AICUs) on Concorde.

BAAE plans to use the 1253 as part of its plan to automate its Concorde test equipment facility. Andrew Davidson, technical support engineer at BAAE, commented on the use of Solartron's equipment:

"We bought Solartron's 1253 following a recommendation from BAe (British Aerospace Engineering) because we needed to upgrade our existing test equipment. There are eight AICUs fitted on each Concorde, and they are essential to the efficient, safe operation of the four Olympus jet engines. By automating the testing now possible with the 1253 we can reduce the time required and improve standards."
