Order for 23 Boeing jets

Order for 23 Boeing jets

Boeing Commercial Airplane Group has confirmed an order by United Airlines for one Boeing 747-400, six Boeing 767-300, and 16 Boeing 777-200 jets. The new 747-400s will increase United's fleet of the wide-body jetliners to 51. The 16 new Boeing 777s will increase United's 777 fleet size to 52 jetliners. United was the launch customer for the 777 the newest Boeing family of jetliners.

Deliveries of these jets are scheduled to begin the first quarter of 1999 and continue into 2002.

We are also informed that Norwegian airline Braathens, has taken delivery of its first Next-Generation 737-700. The aeroplane is Braathens' first of three 737-700s to be leased from International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC). Six additional Next-Generation 737-700s were purchased directly from Boeing with deliveries scheduled over the next three years.

The CFM56-7 engines on the NextGeneration 737-700 produce 10 per cent greater thrust than the CFM56-3C engines that power the classic 737-300/-400/-500 models. The new engines also are quieter, burn less fuel and produce fewer emissions.
