Dunlop Aircraft Tyres has won the major part of the UK Ministry of Defence contract for the supply of aircraft tyres to the Royal Air Force, Fleet Air Arm and the British Army.

This is the first time that the contract has been let for a five-year term and on the basis of direct supply to the units. Dunlop will manage the tyre pool and maintain a schedule of routine and regular despatches. Dunlop will supply new and retread tyres to the Hercules, Nimrod, VC 10, Jetstream (mainwheel), Jaguar (mainwheel) and Tristar (nosewheel). The company will also supply new tyres for the BAe 146s of the Queen's Flight, for the Hawk (mainwheel), Harrier and Sea Harrier, Tornado ("hot and high"), Tucano, Lynx, Wessex and Canberra.

Dunlop manufactures and retreads a range of over 300 types and sizes of tyres for aircraft ranging from helicopters and business jets to wide-body airliners and high-performance military aircraft. The company has in-house facilities for the dynamic testing of tyres up to 135,000lb load capability and landing speeds of 335mph.
