GKN Westland Aerospace, a division of GKN plc, announced today a major strengthening of its management team, to support its continuing growth as a premier global supplier to the aircraft and engine manufacturers.

Chief executive Chris Gustar OBE, announced the appointments of Martin Williams as chief operating officer, Jimmy Johnston as human resources director and Philip Grainger, previously director of engineering becomes business improvement director with responsibility for integrating new acquisitions into the business. The two new directors joined the company on 1 October 1998.

GKN Westland Aerospace has increased its business and technology base through four important and strategic acquisitions during the last 18 months. These acquisitions have provided manufacturing facilities in Europe, the USA and the UK. Further acquisitions are planned.

Martin Williams joins GKN Westland Aerospace from Lucas Aerospace where he was general manager, operations-electronics. Martin has been involved in the aerospace industry for over 30 years and has wide operational experience in an international environment.

Jimmy Johnston joins GKN Westland Aerospace from Delco Electronics Overseas Corporation based in Germany, where he was director of human resources Europe. Jimmy held human resource positions, previously, with Delco in the USA.
