The Engineering and Marine Training Authority (EMTA) is backing a new training programme to meet the special needs of general aviation maintenance organisations.
EMTA is working in partnership with the Aviation Training Association (ATA) and the General Aviation Manufacturers and Traders Association (GAMTA) to launch the scheme which will offer tailor-made training to selected 16-19 year olds next year.
Successful candidates will attend Northbrook College, Sussex, based at Shoreham Airport, for a one-year course which leads to an NVQ Level 2 in aircraft maintenance and provides knowledge required for a general aviation maintenance licence. EMTA, ATA and member companies of GAMTA will jointly fund the programme which aims to tackle concerns over skills shortages and a lack of new recruits to the industry.
