Two grades of Plastazote® foam LD45 and LD50CN are used to form support pads for the specially-designed packing cases of Antony rocket motors at Royal Ordnance's Rocket Motors Division (Plate 5).

These rocket motors are used for the improved Giant Viper Programme at the Division's Summerfield site and are delivered to customers in packing cases produced by Giltpack Limited. Manufactured by Zotefoams plc, Plastazote foam grade LD 45 Black is routed to provide support pads that cradle the large rocket motor, providing the high degree of cushioning required by Royal Ordnance for this application. This grade of nitrogen-expanded polyethylene foam complies with the relevant specification DEF STAN 81.116.1 Type GP Grade C. In addition, the support pads have a 12mm thick lining of Plastazote foam grade LD50CN a permanently-conductive, non-particulating IC pin insertion grade.

Among other key design characteristics of cross-linked Plastazote foam in this protective packaging application are its ease of fabrication and durability.
