Ultran announces the availability of a high frequency (100kHz to 5MHz) Ultrasonic Non-Contact Non-Destructive Analyzer ­ the NCA 1000.

Bench top or online, NCA 1000 is said to be suitable for the analysis of plastics, rubber, fibrous and cellular products, as well as green, sintered, and crystalline materials. Characteristics measured by NCA 1000 are: thickness, velocity, density, acoustic impedance, attenuation, transmissivity, dispersion, phase changes, defects, time-of-flight, composition, and more.

NCA 1000 unites sophisticated modular hardware and digital signal processing (developed by VN Instruments Ltd, Canada) with Ultran's extremely high transduction transducers. For example in ambient air environment, the sensitivity of these devices is merely 30dB down from their contact counterparts, and the signal-to-noise-ratio >40dB. Critical specifications of NCA 1000 are: time-of-flight accuracy: ±1ns in a closed environment and under ambient conditions, ±20ns; dynamic range, >140dB; time stability, <0.2ns; and materials measurement rate, 20/s. Since November 1997, NCA 1000 has been performing successfully in the factory of a major materials manufacturer.
