Three high-transmission filters for military cockpit and avionics displays (Plate 8), which exhibit a sharp cut-off between visible and NVG (night vision goggles) compatible emissions, have been introduced by Oxley Avionics. These filters reportedly enable a bright source to be used, giving improved sunlight readability while remaining completely NVG compatible. Photopic transmittance is said to be some three times greater than that of other NVG filters currently available.

Precise performance is achieved by constructing the filters using combined dichroic and lamination technologies.

The SC03 Green B filter has been designed specifically for use with backlighting, instrument lighting, switches and annunciators. This 2.7mm thick filter exhibits a photopic transmittance of 27 per cent (1,400K source) and 35 per cent (1,800K source).

Caution and advisory indicators, switches, annunciators and other illuminated controls are the main applications for the 2.7mm thick, SC07 Yellow filter. Photopic transmittance is 46 per cent (1,400K source) and 49 per cent (1,800K source).

The DC34 Red filter provides exceptionally high transmission over a very narrow band. With a thickness of 2.0mm, photopic transmittance is 33 per cent (1,800K source) and 31 per cent (2,150K source). For use with incandescent sources, applications include switch caps, instrument lighting, master caution indicators and central warning panels.
