Baan Company, a global provider of business software, has announced the successful deployment of Baan Company enterprise software with A&D Extensions at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS. Using Baan Company Dynamic Enterprise Modelling (BaanDEM), the system was implemented in ten months with 250 users, with a completion date in Q1, 1999. PA Consulting Group, a leading international management and technology consultancy, was in charge of the implementation and worked closely with a dedicated implementation team from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS. Kongsberg expects the implementation of Baan Company enterprise resource planning (ERP) software to reduce IT expenses, improve purchase order processing, overcome Year 2000 computing issues and enable continuous improvement.

Without the availability of support or upgrades from its existing software provider, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace determined that it was necessary to replace its ten-year old legacy system. Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace quickly determined that the Baan Company capabilities were unmatched to meet its industry specific requirements. In addition, Baan Company was able to integrate with the Sherpa Product Data Management (PDM) software that was already being implemented at Kongsberg.

The basic requirement was to have a fast implementation that would immediately provide basic functionality for the aerospace and defence industry, enabling us to improve and expand the system easily. Using BaanDEM and the BaanTarget method we were able to implement the system quickly. BaanDEM also makes it very easy for us to build on the system and develop it according to our changing business needs.
