Recently Swedish Air Force JA 37 Viggen took off from Saab in LinkÎping carrying a new 6.2" x 8.3" AMLCD colour display developed after an extremely short period of time by Ericsson Saab Avionics in Kista.

This was the first flight with the new display replacing the current tactical situation display in the Viggen interceptor, as part of the Viggen Mod D upgrade program.

Ericsson Saab Avionics delivered the display system EP-12 for the JA 37 during the years 1976-89 and was also responsible for a major upgrade of the system in 1989-92.

The integration of the display in the aircraft was made by Saab AB, General Military Programs.

The new colour display is basically identical to the colour display Ericsson Saab Avionics produces for the Gripen fighter. However, Gripen's cockpit includes three colour displays.
