The Bellhouse Aerospace Group, part of Hampson Industries plc, has completed expansion plans that allow the company to address a 35 per cent increase in business from British Aerospace plc for fuselage components for the Hawker 800 Series business jet aircraft.

The plans included the opening of a new fabrication shop and the recruitment and training of some 34 operators from the local area. Investment in new equipment has been made including a 4,000-tonne rubber press with a capacity of 2m by 1.25m, a walk-in freezer, essential for retaining aluminium parts in a stable, malleable state, and metal manipulation equipment.

British Aerospace plc is the main UK supplier of fuselage parts, wings and equipping sets, for the Hawker 800XP to Raytheon Aircraft Inc., of Wichita, USA. Bellhouse supplies some 60 per cent of the Hawker 800 Series aircraft fuselage sets for which some 2,260 components for frames and joining parts are delivered weekly.

The 1999 programme was for the company to supply 59 aircraft sets with a firm commitment to deliver 62 in 2000. It is anticipated that the orders will continue for more than 60 sets for at least another two years, with the demand continuing for another ten years. The company is also committed to supply spares and repairs for the lifetime of the aircraft.
