Legal boost for aerospace companies

Keywords Aerospace industry, United Kingdom

The aerospace industry in the North East of England is said to be set to take on the world as ten aerospace companies officially collaborate in a bid to bring high profile aerospace contracts to the region, boosting jobs.

The ten, who are all members of the Northern Defence Initiative (NDI), have signed a memorandum of understanding at the offices of NDI's law firm, Ward Hadaway, which brings them together to form the NDI Aerospace Group (NDI AG).

Colin Smith, secretary to the NDI, said:

NDI was set up two years ago to bring partnership assistance and advice to its members considering tendering for defence contracts. A new cluster group was formed 12 months ago under the NDI AG banner and is the culmination of work by the NDI and One North-East to bring about a collaboration of the region's aerospace companies.

It would appear that the collaboration between these ten companies is already starting to pay off as aerospace giant Lockheed Martin added the North East to its list of UK locations offering aerospace expertise.
