Wet blast sub-contract facility

Keywords USF Abrasive Developments, Wet blasting, Cleaning, Finishing

USF Abrasive Developments, a division of USF Surface Preparation Ltd, has just launched a sub-contract facility aimed at making the benefits of the VAQUA controlled wet blast process available to a wide range of industry.

The VAQUA process, developed by USF Abrasive Developments, is considered to be a versatile, efficient and economical metal cleaning and finishing process. It claims to save hours of messy cleaning and totally eliminates the health and environmental hazards associated with strong chemicals and dust from conventional blasting methods. It is also said to simultaneously clean, pre-treat and degrease a wide range of components without dust, damage, heat or static generation.

According to USF this new initiative, promoted under the name "Impact Finishers", will be of particular interest to engineers in aerospace, electronics and precision engineering where typical processes to benefit from the process include:

  • shot peening screw threads, turbine blades and other critical parts;

  • removal of heat discoloration; and

  • producing a matt finish on stainless steel and the removal of flash from DC-DC converters.
