Data sharing project

Keywords Projects, Data, Defence, Aircraft

We understand that following intense competition, a contract to study and demonstrate joint project data-sharing has been placed by the Defence Procurement Agency (DPA) for a FOAS shared data environment (SDE) demonstrator. The uniquely organised systems study and implementation is to be led by Datel Defence Limited in order to enable the joint MoD/Industry Team working on the Future Offensive Air System (FOAS) to share project data in an "open" but secure environment. This, we are told, will enable the DPA-led integrated project team (IPT) to share engineering, programme management and commercial data in an electronic format and will eventually evolve into a complete business solution.

This contract is said to be innovative in that it addresses cultural, security and technical issues simultaneously and in an integrated fashion. Pricewaterhouse Coopers is a partner in the implementation team and brings the right experience to ensure a "business-led" approach to the study. They will be actively involved in reviewing and analysing the shared business processes, in order to ensure wide acceptance of the SDE solution.
