Component support partnership

It is reported that FLS Aerospace and Air Malta have entered a new long-term partnership. The seven-year agreement for Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft rotatable component support from FLS Aerospace has a contract value of Euro42 million.

A consignment of components is to be based in Luqa for the exclusive use of Air Malta. FLS Aerospace will supplement and replenish this material from substantial stocks held at its storage and distribution centre near London Heathrow airport. The contract will support nine B737 and two A320 aircraft. FLS Aerospace recently signed a similar component support contract with AZZURRAair, a regional airline 49 per cent owned by Air Malta.

Air Malta Chairman, Louis Grech, said:

This contract is a move by Air Malta to shift from traditional component ownership to outsourcing. It is expected that the change will bring about both immediate and long-term financial and operational benefits, especially since the aviation industry is facing various challenges including spiralling costs and lower yields.
