Keywords Mitutoyo, Roughness, Testing

Mitutoyo reports that it has added a new portable surface roughness tester to its range. The Surftest SJ-301 features built in rechargeable battery, printer and carrying case to enable surface testing to be carried out on site.

A large durable touch panel LCD claims ease of operation as well as clear viewing of results and profile analysis graphs. Different magnifications assist reading of fine details.

A statistical analysis function displays frequency histograms as well as statistical calculation results (average, standard deviation, maximum value, minimum value and pass/fail ratio).

Measuring range is from 9.4µm to 300µm with a resolution between 0.01µm and 0.32µm. Drive speed is 0.25, 0.5 and 1mm/s.

A high speed thermal printer is built into the SJ-301, featuring selectable orientation between portrait for conventional printout and landscape for printing out the image as it is displayed.

Measured data can be downloaded via the RS 232 port to a data processor or computer spreadsheet program. Using the optional dedicated software - Surfpak SJ - various surface texture analyses can be performed. Measurement in difficult areas such as small holes, deep grooves and soft materials is possible with a range of special detectors. No tools are required when replacing the detector. The Surftest SJ-301 is just part of a comprehensive range of surface testing equipment available from Mitutoyo UK.
