The BUS-65518 from DDC is a half-size 16-bit ISA Bus card which enables dynamic simulation and testing of MIL-STD-1553 data bus systems. The card incorporates many features into a form factor that makes it ideal for use in ruggedised portable computers.

MIL-STD-1553 is the standard two-wire data bus used world-wide on military aircraft and aerospace systems and the card will, it is thought, appeal to avionics systems engineers and maintenance personnel. The card is said to be extremely simple to use and menu-driven software allows even first-time users to be up and running within an hour.

The BUS-65518 acts as a full, intelligent interface between the MIL-STD-1553 and a PC, and its user-friendly software allows simultaneous emulation of a MIL-STD-1553 bus controller (BC), a bus monitor (MT), and up to 31 remote terminals (RTs).

According to DDC the on-board processing power provides the BUS-65518 with the most comprehensive error-injection and error-detection capabilities in the industry. Users can control amplitude and inject message validity errors as well as run noise-rejection tests with an external noise source.

The bus controller (BC) function of the BUS-65518 supports frames containing up to 1,000 messages with inter-message gaps and errors for testing system message-handling performance. Message monitoring is selective and 32-bit time tags provide high timing resolution for accurate diagnostics.

The remote terminals (RTs) are fully functional and support dynamic bus control as well as message illegalisation. Each is equipped with individual registers for holding Last Command and Last Status.

The basic software package includes parameter monitor, a real-time engineering units monitor, reconstruction to replay previously recorded bus traffic, as well as libraries and GUI menus that will run under DOS and Windows. Additional software is available for RT validation and production testing.
