Direct harness technology eliminates the need for connector backshells

Direct harness technology eliminates the need for connector backshells

Keywords: TEC Electrical Components, Connectors

TEC Electrical Components reports that it has introduced a new range of military circular connectors that allow RFI braiding, moulded boots and conduit to be terminated directly to the connector body, thereby eliminating the need for conventional screw-on backshell accessories (Plate 5).

As well as saving space, weight and cost, the new DHS (direct harness system) design also claims to speed up harness assembly, improve quality and enable parts inventories to be reduced.

In place of the normal accessory thread, the DHS connector features a smooth bonding surface for maximum adhesion of the moulded boot, together with a knurled section that ensures good electrical contact and secure attachment of the RFI braiding. An end rib provides positive location for the braid tie.

DHS technology is initially available on TEC'S MIL-C-38999 Series III connectors in all standard shell styles, materials and plating finishes. As well as individual DHS connectors, TEC is also offering a choice of two handy kits for use on sealed harnesses or conduit harnesses.
