USF Impact Finishers, a member of the USF Surface Preparation Group, reports that it has recently installed a new centrifugal wheel shot peening plant – manufactured by sister company, USF Wheelabrator-Tilghman – specifically to keep pace with increasing demand for the high-through-put processing of aircraft "flatwork", such as access panels, doors and reinforcing plates, for fatigue life enhancement (Plate 3).

The fully-automatic machine has been introduced as part of a major investment by the USF Surface Preparation Group in contract shot peening and surface treatment facilities world-wide – with the aim of becoming the "number one" subcontractor in this important growth sector.

USF Impact Finishers reports substantial growth in its aerospace business during 1999 and, in addition to installing the new wheel plant, has progressively streamlined and upgraded its shot peening and finishing facilities in Slough and Coventry over the last year. This includes the installation of a new wet peening machine, the introduction of a fast-response 24-hour service for the aircraft on-ground (AOG) processing of aeroengine and aircraft structural parts, and the installation of additional "state-of-the-art" programmable shot peening systems. The company is fully equipped to meet the all latest operating standards and specifications demanded by the major aerospace manufacturers and airlines and the defence industry.
