DDC's new STAR Series™ of fully integrated programmable low-cost solid-state advanced remote power controllers (RPCs) are designed to replace electromagnetic breakers in land, air and sea vehicles. The RP-212XX controllers are rated from 1 to 25 amps at 28 volts dc and their primary function is to guard against 12T heating effects, which may result in damage to wiring and cables.

The STAR Series (Plate 4) claims status outputs showing switch state and minimum load current, and can be controlled remotely by logic inputs, allowing them to be placed near the load. They also provide isolation between the control side and the power side of the unit.

These controllers are described as being designed with EMI/EMC tolerance, 12T trip protection, real time status reporting, and an optional analog current monitor output, battle short option, and can be interfaced to a computer or host processor.

The RPCs are available in three programmable current ranges: 1 to 3 amps, 3 to 9 amps, and 8 to 25 amps, each of which has four preset settings. They use power MOSFETs to provide high reliability with no thermal derating.

According to DDC the STAR Series uses space-age plastics, making them non-flammable, electrically shockproof, small sized and low weight. The units, which have a –55°C to +100°C operating range, are impervious to moisture and support surface and through-hole mounting.
