Helicopter endless rope winch system

Helicopter endless rope winch systemKeywords: Helicopters, Patents

In GB Patent 2340101 Allan Brocklebank describes a helicopter rope winch system. It comprises a continuous loop of rope which is wound a number of times around a driven capstan drum attached to the aircraft. Casualties to be rescued, or other loads to be elevated, are attached to the rope and successively elevated into the aircraft. The rope may include a series of tape loop points for the attachment of spring hooks, karabina, a personal harness or the like to which the casualties or other loads are attached. The tape loop points may be formed from flat fabric or other suitable material strips formed into loops and interwoven into the rope or fixed in some other manner. A removable bar may be provided to prevent the rope from slipping over the end flange of the drum.
