A line of thin-film super insulating materials that is said to combine ultra light weight, thermal reflectivity, moisture resistance, and flexibility is available from Metallized Products, Inc. of Winchester, MA, USA (Plate 10).

MPI's NRC-2™ super insulating films are made from ultra light weight polyester film with a heavy, high-purity coating on one or two sides that is described as providing a very flexible, moisture-resistant thermal barrier. Featuring a crinkled finish to minimise conductive heat transfer and thermal short circuiting in multi-layer applications, these 25-gauge thin films are reported to be highly reflective, conformable, and will not outgas in vacuum.

Plate 10 MPI's NRC-2™ super insulating films

Considered to be ideally suited for cryogenic, aerospace, medical device, protective garment, and energy management applications, MPI's NRC-2 super insulating films are available with 250A° or 500A° of high-purity aluminium, two-sided aluminised construction, and in a Cryolam structure consisting of a two-sided aluminised film with a non-outgassing spacer banded together for layer separation. Smooth films are also offered.

MPI's NRC-2™ super insulating films are priced according to construction and quantity.
