Aerosystems International (AeI) reports that it has won a £3.5m contract to support the Royal Navy's Merlin Mk 1. The contract from AgustaWestland is for the development and support of a new advanced computer system which will assist the engineers and technicians in maintenance procedures.

The Enhanced Health and Usage Diagnostic Systems (EHUDS) will provide asset, management and recording at first and second line, so is believed to be ideally suited to operating in deployable environments such as aircraft carriers.

Underpinning EHUDS is the latest version of AeI's Sapphire maintenance management product that provides seamless aircraft and asset maintenance management from the flight line to the workshop. Advanced interfaces and data management allows Sapphire to be integrated with the HUMS systems available on the Merlin aircraft.
