Bonding with the best

Metflex reports that it has developed advanced facilities to provide rubber to metal bonding for the aeronautics and automotives industries.

The process involves degreasing and phosphating metal inserts prior to bonding.

Specialist machinery, developed for Metflex, sprays the treated metals with an agent which reportedly allows rubber to key successfully.

The finished product can then be implemented into various other rubber engineering processes that Metflex provides.

John Holland, of Metflex, which is based at Great Harwood, Lancashire, said: "Despite the tricky process we can greatly reduce assembly costs and operations by combining components into a part rather than have two or three separate components".

The system cost £20,000 to set up, providing a process to a number of industry sectors.

"We are able to produce combined assemblies which are useful to any type of work, aeronautics in particular."

"Very few competitors can offer this service because of the technical nature and the high specification machinery used in the operation."

Providing smaller components towards larger projects is considered Metflex's speciality. "Giving customers a complete service keeps us at the forefront in our industry," added John.
