Collaborative business environments for design teams to supply chains in high-tech electronics industry

Keywords: MatrixOne, Software

MatrixOne, Inc. has announced integrations to leading electronic design automation (EDA) tool environments from Mentor Graphics Corporation and Cadence Design Systems, Inc. With this announcement, MatrixOne's eMatrix™ solution can reportedly be quickly integrated to enable customers to exploit the full power of collaboration across multiple EDA tool environments, independent of any single vendor's EDA framework. With today's electronics industry being truly international, effective interactions among globally distributed design and engineering resources are vital. For a collaborative environment to increase innovation and accelerate development processes in this global industry, it cannot be limited to operation in a single tool vendor's framework.

"Establishing collaborative design environments both for Net markets and for internal development is a critical part of MatrixOne's mission to enable customers to meet the time-to-market challenge in high-tech", said Michael Segal, MatrixOne's senior vice president of customer success. "ematrix's focus on collaborative process and information management means other participants in the product development process are able to interact with the information, either directly or through managed workflow".

The EDA integration capability of the ematrix solution is based on a JAVA client application that enables design process collaboration for both Mentor Graphics and Cadence Design Systems design tools. ematrix moves far beyond simple management of EDA data by enabling customers to develop ISO-certiflable design processes that are tightly coupled to their design environment. The JAVA client application is novel in that it stands independent of any proprietary frameworks. The immediate availability of this client application will help customers to significantly accelerate the delivery of process tools and technology that lead to higher quality products with innovative functionality.

Companies have traditionally made substantial investments in ERP, supply chain, project management, CAD/CAM, software development and other enterprise applications. Typically, the information associated with any of these systems is only available to those systems' users. The ematrix framework provides the foundation for a high level of collaboration, integrating disparate functions, organisations, processes and applications. The ematrix solution empowers all parties to access and add value to data and processes in order to create enterprise knowledge and a sustainable competitive advantage. It does so by managing the way in which business processes and backbone applications collaborate, allowing organisations to change their business processes as their business needs change.

"In concert with MatrixOne's Value Chain Portfolio of robust business applications, customers can now collaborate in real-time on product content throughout their development and supply networks", continued Segal. "By providing a collaborative design environment as a critical conduit for passing information from the enterprise to the application user, independent of the EDA tool framework in the customer's environment, MatrixOne's integration technology is helping companies meet their critical time-to-market objectives".
