Crossair honoured for its noise protection activities
Keywords: Noise levels, Aircraft
It is reported that Crossair has been honoured for the second time by Manchester Airport of the UK for its exemplary observance of the airport's departure procedures, which are aimed at minimising the noise to which local residents are exposed. The carrier received the award at a recent ceremony held at the airport.
The procedures were introduced following the provision of a second runway at the airport, during planning for which the airport undertook to introduce stricter noise regulations. The procedures require departing aircraft to follow a clearly-defined air corridor which avoids populated areas until they reach a specific attitude, thereby minimising the noise to which local residents are exposed.
All departures are monitored within a 30-kilometre radius of the airport, and the data recorded are made available to the airlines and other parties involved. Every airline is asked to ensure that 95 per cent of its departures remain "on track ". And the carriers that achieve this performance are honoured every year with the airports "Target Achiever Award".
Crossair serves Manchester three times daily from EuroAirport BaselMulhouse- Freiburg using Embraer RJ-145 equipment.
The first-ever Target Achiever Awards were bestowed on Crossair and CSA/Czech Airlines. The recent awards went to Crossair, Brymon Airways, Continental Airlines and Finnair.
