PTC solutions are critical in Joint Strike Fighter Program

PTC, the product development company, reports on the role its solutions have played in the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program as it moves to the System Development and Demonstration phase. The Joint Strike Fighter is a stealthy, supersonic, multi-role fighter designed using a customised platform base for the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps, as well as the UK Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. An international team led by Lockheed Martin recently won the contract to produce the plane. PTC solutions were used by a number of weapons system contractors on the JSF Concept Demonstration Program.
"Using PTC's Windchill Solutions, the Lockheed Martin Joint Strike Fighter program gains unprecedented insight into performance metrics throughout the program," says John Burdett, JSF Integrated Management Framework project manager. "This comes with the added feature of accessing real-time working data through a single, web-enabled portal."
The JSF Concept Demonstration Program featured flying aircraft demonstrators, ground and flight technology demonstrations, and continued refinement of the contractors weapons system concept for the next generation strike fighter. The most visible element for the overall concept demonstration was the flight demonstrators representing the contractors' preferred weapon system concept (PWSC) family of aircraft. Each contractor built two flying concept demonstrator aircraft (CDA) to demonstrate key critical features of each contractor's concept.
"PTC provided strategic solutions for the weapons systems contractors and their JSF teams. As a supplier to both Boeing and Lockheed Martin, PTC software tools stand to be an important part of the development of the JSF," says.
