MOD metals contract

Keywords: Defence, Metals, Contract

It is reported that the MOD has selected Unipart Defence Logistics in partnership with Apollo, their chosen partner, as the contractor to manage and supply a wide range of metals in an initial five-year contract, worth an estimated 10 million. The contract encompasses tri-service requirements for a large number of MoD bases and is forecast to generate significant cost savings to the MOD, through a combination of stock management and dramatically improved cross-division traceability. The contract was announced as part of the MOD Industrial Prime Vendor (IPV) programme.

Unipart's Surestock division will act as the main contractor with Apollo engaged as the nominated supplier, providing a range of supply chain management services and metal products, including the production and maintenance of a complete online catalogue containing prices and availability information for the MOD'S metal requirements within the IPV contract. Both companies will work closely with top-level MOD engineering teams to review and rationalise the current metals inventory to allow economies in both procurement and logistics to be achieved.
