Upgrade programme

Keywords: Aircraft, Upgrade

Fairchild Dornier has announced an upgrade program for its Merlin and Metro regional aircraft which will place MAGIC Electronic Flight Instrument Systems (EFIS) and Engine Instrument Display Systems (EIDS) into the flightdecks of these aircraft.

The program is a critical step in the long- term support of in-service aircraft, since it addresses reliability and support issues of the older electromechanical instruments. Both EFIS and EIDS will enhance pilot situational awareness while information is provided to the pilot which utilises the same coloration and symbology as offered on business jet and commercial jet transport systems.

In the short term, single or dual EFIS planned and EIDS will be available on all TPE331 equipped aircraft for privately owned or corporate owned aircraft. The solid state ADAHRS displays, which replace unsupportable spinning mass gyroscopes, will reduce weight and improve reliability over existing discrete electromechanical instruments.
