Fred Johnson a senior manager with BHW (Components) Ltd, part of the Fabrications & Assemblies Division of Hanpson Industries plc., has been presented with an MBE by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for "services to the aircraft industry" (Plate 11).

Fred has been in the aerospace industry for over half a century. Following an engineering apprenticeship, in 1951 he joined GEC/ English Electric where he worked on the build programmes for a number of aircraft including the Canberra bomber, Lightning fighter, TSR2, Tornado. Concorde and Airbus aircraft.

After many years as manufacturing manager at GEC Engineering Limited at Clayton-le-Moors, Accrington, UK, Fred joined BHW in 1995 where he has assisted in the continued success of the business as the liaison manager between customers and the company. BHW supplies fabricated components and assemblies to the world's aerospace market.
