QinetiQ completes its first company acquisition

QinetiQ, formed in July 2001 from the bulk of DERA (Defence Evaluation and Research Agency), has just completed its first acquisition, with the purchase of Bristol based Motionbase – a major company in simulator motion platforms. The move is said to complement QinetiQ's extensive computer and solutions-oriented modelling capabilities and will significantly strengthen its global profile in the expanding mid-range simulator sector.

QinetiQ already claims a lead in Real Time All Vehicle Simulation (RTAVS), a mature low-cost PC-based simulation architecture and has ready access to broad solutions- oriented modelling capabilities. Motionbase's expertise is based around six axis servo- electric motion platforms and electric control loading systems, all with PC-compatible interface software. The acquisition allows QinetiQ to access additional established customers within this important market and deliver fully integrated simulator systems.
