Marshall Aerospace, based in Cambridgeshire, UK, recently performed a fuselage barrel skin replacement on a Cessna CJ aircraft. This involved completely removing the port side skin from the entry door to the rear pressure bulkhead, and replacing with a new skin.
It was confirmed by Cessna's headquarters that this was the first such repair performed on a CJ. Marshall Aerospace considers that this is a reflection not only on its capability but also on the company's relationship with Cessna, that they had the confidence in MA to perform such a large task away from their own facilities.
However, MA acknowledge that such a task could not have been performed in Cambridge without the excellent technical and engineering support from Cessna.
MA report that the work scope involved some delicate metal work with new experiences in de-bonding and bonding structural work.
