Keywords: SAGEM, Navigation, Contracts

SAGEM, a major European company in the field of inertial navigation systems, has registered orders for inertial navigation units totalling more than EUR 150 million in the first half of this year. SAGEM informs us that it won all major contracts in France and registered several significant orders in Europe and around the world. Jacques Paccard, director of SAGEM’s Defence and Security Division said: “The signing of these major contracts for the supply of inertial systems to the Rafale aircraft and the NH 90 helicopter, as well as several other orders for inertial terrestrial navigation will lead to a considerable increase in production at our Montlugon, France manufacturing centre as early as the second half of 2002.”

The Sigma and Saphir product range has been particularly well received: these ring laser gyro inertial systems allow the setting of optimum navigation conditions in complete autonomy. Several of these systems directly supply secure reference data to the fly-by-wire flight control systems – a technological advance which enables a reduction in the number of sensors dedicated to this function thus reducing weight, volume and cost.

SAGEM is present in Air Force, Army and Navy application fields and in technologies including mechanical gyros, ring laser gyros, fiber optics gyros and vibrating gyros.
