Integrated MEMS Inertial/GPS navigation system

Integrated MEMS Inertial/GPS navigation system

Keywords: Navigation, Sensors, Aerospace

Incorporating quartz MEMS inertial sensors, the MIGITS (MEMS Integrated GPS/INS Tactical System) from BEI Systron Donner Inertial Division, includes a new 12 channel C/A code GPS receiver to form a high accuracy, rugged, compact inertial navigation system (Plate 9).

The heart of the unit is a 44 mm cube, 6-degree of freedom sensor cluster with MEMS GyroChip rotation sensors and accelerometers. This sensor cluster is built with mature technology devices currently in volume production. The complete MIGITS unit operates from 28V DC, weighs only 1. 1 Kg and provides serial digital output of position, velocity, altitude, heading, attitude, time, acceleration and angular velocity data.

Developed for aviation, military and aerospace applications, the unit claims a positional accuracy of 3.9 m SEP, velocity to 1 m/s, attitude to 1 mrad, heading to 1.5 mRad. Environmental specifications include a military temperature range, 12 g RMS vibration and 20 g, 11 m/s 1/2 sine shock capability.
