Qatar Airways expands maintenance facility

Qatar Airways expands maintenance facility

Qatar Airways has expanded the maintenance facilities at its Doha base to keep pace with its rapid fleet expansion. The latest addition is a state-of-the-art aircraft wheels and brakes overhaul facility. The new workshop, built at a cost of US$2.2 million, can undertake repair and overhaul works on the wheels and brakes used on all the aircraft types operated by Qatar Airways.

The facility is equipped with the latest equipment and one important feature includes non-destructive testing to ensure the serviceability of the wheel and brake parts. The shop is equipped with a nitrogen reservoir that can service up to 40 wheels without refilling and the workshop is manned by highly trained and experienced personnel recruited specifically for the purpose.

Mr Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways’ CEO commented: “This new facility has been designed to deliver the highest standards in quality and punctuality in the region. Furthermore this latest development exemplifies Qatar Airways’ dedication to maintaining and heightening its reputation as a leading carrier in the region.”

The new maintenance facility will contribute significant cost savings for the airline by performing in-house work, which was previously out-sourced. The workshop is expected to pay for itself within 9 months with its present workload and additional revenue could be generated from other airlines.
