Kerry Ultrasonics has launched two new pieces of ultrasonic cleaning equipment. The KS Mk2 cleaning tank and the UCR Mk2 wash and rinse system feature the company’s powerful new Pulsatron M300 ultrasonic generator, along with digital controls for precise process management (Plate 7).

Typical applications for these cleaning systems are the refurbishment of engine and gearbox components and fuel injectors.

Both models are stated to be very easy to operate, reverting automatically to last-used settings at switch on. An LCD display shows set and run times and temperatures, while a four-keypad control panel allows the setting of ultrasonics time and solution temperature, the former in 6 s increments to a maximum of 99.9 min, the latter in 1°C increments up to 80°C.

Ultrasonic transducers bonded to the tank base are reported to provide high levels of performance and reliability together with uniform distribution of ultrasonic energy. The ultrasonic frequency is tuned to the individual tank and transducer combination and then optimised under normal usage conditions through the use of a frequency sweep of up to 2 kHz, rather than a fixed frequency. The internal housing of the generators ensures that footprints remain small.

Standard versions of these tanks operate at 38 kHz, but the optional Neptune dual-frequency generator control is available for both models in all sizes. This device enables sensitive or intricately shaped parts to be effectively cleaned at a safe frequency of 70 kHz. Both types of system can also be supplied with KPF60 pumped filtration units to maintain the purity of cleaning solutions.

The standard KS Mk2 tank is available with a maximum capacity of 248 l, while the UCR Mk2 wash and rinse tank can hold up to 117 l. Larger versions of both models can be built to order.
