Testing and conformance to SBAC (ASCS) TS157

Keywords: Aerospace, Testing, Standards

BS5750 and ISO9000 are both widely recognised quality standards but mention SBAC (ASCS) TS157 and most people will scratch their heads in bewilderment. It is just one of numerous standards, however, that Siegrist-Orel Limited regularly need to conform to when manufacturing identification and protection systems which include sleeves and cable markers.

In full the acronym relates to the Society of British Aerospace Companies (Aerospace Sector Certification Scheme) Technical Specification 157. It is exclusively applicable to the Aerospace Industry where the SBAC require that a set of special elements over and above ISO9000 is mandatory.

Broadstairs-based Siegrist routinely puts products and materials through a wide range of demanding tests designed to certify they meet fully a vast array of ultra-stringent national, defence and international standards. This extensive work also ensures Siegrist is able to advise customers on the best materials in terms of performance characteristics for an individual application.

Apart from its work on high specification cable markers and sleeves for the aerospace, defence and transport sectors, Siegrist-Orel is also a major supplier to the telecommunications and electronics industries.

Plate 10 A new four-pronged hand tool – designed to simplify the application of cable identification and sleeves around a loom – has been launched by Siegrist-Orel

Recently launched by Siegrist-Orel is a new four-pronged hand tool (Plate 10) – designed to simplify the application of cable identification and sleeves around a loom – claiming to provide major handling and efficiency advantages over the widely used three-pronged tool and believed to be the first of its type, the SO4 is available exclusively from the Broadstairs-based company on an ex-stock basis. Robustly engineered for long operational life, the new tool can be locked open at any distance for long cable loom assembly. This valuable feature eases the process significantly and reduces costs by minimising the time and effort spent on applying the outer cable identification.
