Decision support software

Keywords: Software, Asset management

Software developer APT, supplier of the Asset Performance Tools has announced the release of its new decision-support software suite, the "APT Integrated Toolkit".

This software evaluates and optimises the cost /risk/performance trade-off involved in setting maintenance or inspection intervals, deciding when to replace equipment, determining how many spares to hold and a range of similar "asset management" issues. A D71-backed, multi-industry development programme has culminated in seven sophisticated but easy-to-use analysis tools for different decision types. The latest development joins these elements to form an integrated decision-support toolkit, sharing a master "analysis" filing system, generic information libraries and linking component decisions on, for example, condition monitoring, testing or preventive maintenance into life cycle costing and shutdown planning strategy.

Derrick' Thompson, Operations Manager at APT, explained "Our new suite will equip engineers and asset managers with the most powerful, integrated and easy-to-use decision toolkit yet available. We have already seen millions of £/$ saved through the use of individual AFT decision-support tools – the new integrated suite on PCs or company wide SQUOracle platforms offers even greater scope for improving the reliability, efficiency, safety and longevity of industrial plant at significantly lower total capital and operating cost."

Asset Performance Tools is tasked with the continuing development and technical support of products resulting from the European Maintenance Cost Risk Optimisation (Macro) Research and Development project. This project started in 1995 and came to its conclusion 5 years later having examined and collated best practices and developed risk based methods for asset decision support. APT brought its first software tool to the market in 1997 and since then has gone from strength to strength establishing a network of distributors in Australia, France, South Africa, South America and the United Kingdom.
