Aircraft Engineering and Installation Services Inc. (AEI), of Orlando FL USA, has obtained supplementary type certificates (STCs) and CAA Major Modification certification for the installation of AD Aerospace FlightVu cockpit monitoring systems on Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft.

AEI now holds STCs for video surveillance systems on B737-200/300/400/500/700/800/ 900, B757-200/300 and B767-200/300/400. The fully DO-160D and DO-178B certified FlightVu system provides cockpit door video security that enables pilots to directly observe in real time the area outside the flight deck door without leaving their seats. This follows the ICAO recommendations on flight deck door security and gives compliance with the existing DfT legislation in the UK and anticipated legislation in Europe and America.

"These STCs enables AEI, along with our partners AD Aerospace, to offer a strong proven product to improve our customers in-flight security", said Jack Corthell, President/CEO, AEI. "Installation is underway on easyJet, Britannia, bmi and a number of other European airlines and we are expecting great things for the coming year. We anticipate shortly having STCs for Airbus aircraft along with more Boeings and regional jets."

The FlightVu cockpit door monitoring system consists of three CCTV cameras linked to a LCD monitor(s) strategically mounted in the cockpit pedestal. The monitor(s) provide the flight deck crew with clear, forward viewing, real-time video of the area outside the cockpit door. The CCTV cameras are flush mounted to the aircraft interior outside the secure cabin door and in the galley area, in color coordinated housings. The system also includes infra red illuminators that allow the area to be viewed even with cabin lights extinguished.

"Aircraft Video Surveillance Systems are becoming a major feature of airliner security both against terrorist threat and in the incident of passenger air rage," said Mike Horne, Managing Director, AD Aerospace. "The introduction of secure flight deck doors can leave the pilots isolated and unaware of what is occurring in the cabin. FlightVu video surveillance systems such as FlightVu keep the pilots informed and able to deal with situations as they arise".

The CAA Major Modification certification was obtained with the assistance of Aero Engineering Design Ltd (AED).
