AD Aerospace Ltd, Manchester UK, reports that it has shipped over 150 sets of FlightVu aerospace camera security equipment to commercial airlines in Europe and America. Customers include JetBlue, Continental, easyJet and Britannia airways.

“Our FlightVu camera systems are setting the standard for aviation video security,” said Mike Horne, Managing Director, AD Aerospace. “Using our 20 years experience in CCTV we have designed video systems which meet the airlines security needs, while being simple to install and easy to maintain.”

The need for tight security on commercial airliners has been emphasized over recent years with the increased terrorist threat worldwide and an upsurge in air rage incidents bringing the safety of passengers, aircrew and aircraft into jeopardy. Steps being taken to counter these dangers include the introduction of intruder proof cockpit doors. However, this has the side effect of isolating the flight crew so they are unaware of what is happening in the rest of the aircraft. This is where closed circuit television (CCTV) systems play their part.

An aircraft's safety in flight is chiefly dependant on two factors; one the training of the flight crew and the other is the information available to them. The presence of a CCTV system with a live feed to the light deck greatly increases the awareness the pilots have of events in the aircraft, from the cockpit door area to the cargo hold, allowing them to respond accordingly.

FlightVu camera systems have been or are being installed on a wide range of commercial airliners, including A320, B-737, B-757, B-767, B-777, DC-10, MD-11 and Fokker 100.
