SBS Technologies, Inc., recently announced the availability of the AVC-cPCI-3008, an advanced embedded 3U CompactPCI ruggedized PASS Analyser system for in-flight data monitoring and analysis.

As a major component of high-capacity aircraft data acquisition and processing systems, the rugged AVC-cPCI-3008 PASS Analyser can store data in crash survivable memory and in removable memory for routine maintenance. The AVC-cPCI-3008 functions as a flight-ready 1553 bus data monitoring, collection and analysis system that can reportedly be easily be fitted into new aircraft or retrofitted inexpensively into older aircraft. This robust data analysis tool provides time-stamped real-time data in engineering form that can be analysed on-board or downloaded to a notebook-based ground station for immediate analysis.

At the heart of the AVC-cPCI-3008 data analyser system is the SBS PASS 3200 1553 data bus analyser application software. Utilising an improved operator interface with graphical displays, PASS 3200 is easy to use and allows intuitive interpretation of flight data. PASS 3200 features include remote control over a network, graphical display for quick data display, real-time engineering unit conversions, and the ability to time- correlate and simultaneously view data from multiple data buses in a single display window.

“With this system, actual data from the avionics systems is recorded in real time. Any event or anomaly can be viewed real-time or later by a flight line technician once the aircraft is on the ground. A technician no longer needs to simulate or try to recreate an in-flight event-he can work with the actual data that occurred in flight. This enables faster and more accurate aircraft diagnostics and system health monitoring,” said David Wessing, vice-president and general manager of the Government Group.

“The dual redundant AVC-cPCI-3008 PASS Analyser system leverages the extensive experience SBS Technologies has with avionic system integration. This conduction-cooled data acquisition system offers avionics designers great versatility and can be customised with other I/O boards to meet a customer's specific needs. The chassis is designed to be mounted in harsh military environments where the system may be subjected to higher than normal temperatures and rugged operating conditions,” continued Wessing.

The AVC-cPCI-3008 PASS Analyser system uses two conduction-cooled SBS CR3 Intel ULV Celeron processor-based single board computers and two conduction-cooled SBS Sentiris Graphics/Video PMC modules. The system also supports multiple 1553A and 1553B Notice 2 Protocol data streams simultaneously in flight or on the ground and is designed to withstand the increased temperature, shock and vibration of military environments.
