AERO Vodochody a.s. recently finished a design test stage of an upgraded version of the Czech VS-2 ejection seat. The test took place in the area of Sazena airfield, two live seat ejections took place in flight using the modified L159B aircraft. Flight tests carried out followed the successful ground tests and crowned the common three-year development project of AERO Vodochody a.s. and VZLU (Aeronautical Research and Test Institute of the Czech Republic).

Petr Raska, AERO Conceptual Design Manager, stated: “By finishing the tests, we are closing the last stage of the VS Upgrade Development Project. I do not see the success only in gaining a new top-class product comparable with current world trade, which increases technical quality and the quality of AERO military aircraft and indirectly also their sale potential. The VS Upgrade Project represented a pilot project utilising special-purpose support to research and development form the state budget via the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO). By successful completion of this Project, AERO proved meaningfulness and effectiveness of MPO grant projects for further development of Czech aircraft industry.”
