Following the signing of a distribution agreement with Phoenix Aviation & Technology (PAT), Tyco Electronics' Global Application Tooling Division (GATD) can now offer PAT's automatic real-time cable monitoring system and its advanced range of portable and embedded monitoring devices to the military and commercial aerospace sector.

Following the successful co-operation with MK Test for automatic high voltage test systems, the partnership forms a second phase in developing Tyco Electronics' presence within the aerospace sector. Tyco Electronics is now able to offer a comprehensive range of test equipment from front line diagnostics through to automatic test equipment for OEM's.

Included in the agreement is PAT's leading mil-spec handheld PDA, a mil- spec multi-channel ETDR and single- channel OTDR handheld PCDU, plus the world's first real-time embedded wire diagnostic system.

The PDA is described as a high- performance and easy-to-use, ruggedised mil-spec handheld unit with full diagnostic capability that also characterises, maps and monitors individual electrical wire combinations to provide essential performance and monitoring data. The powerful and lightweight TDR unit includes a user- friendly interface, allowing the operator to identify and locate faults with matchless accuracy.

PAT's PCDU is a mil-spec, multi- channel ETDR and single-channel OTDR handheld unit claiming the same performance and capability as the PDA, but tests and monitors complete harness assemblies in situ or during installation and/or manufacturing. The PCDU is the world's first combined optical and copper analysis system, and can be purchase either as a copper- or fibre- only unit, while easily upgraded to a full “combi” device.

With all the functionality (monitoring, identification and location) of the PDA and PCDU, but in real-time, PAT's embedded wafer provides manufacturers of electrical equipment or interconnect systems with the option of building a wire diagnostic capability into their product.
