Aircraft repair and maintenance
Following a substantial initial order for 3in. diameter Pipe Weld Purge Systems that were supplied for use in the Falkland Islands, the MOD (Battlefield Support) has subsequently ordered similar equipment for use in Afghanistan.
The current requirement is for the purging of 75mm diameter pipework welds.
Such pipes are found in aircraft and used for air ducting, fuel delivery and other services.
Welds of this diameter are purged with the 3in. ArgweldÆ inflatable pipe purging systems having a total range of 58-84mm diameter, in order to prevent oxidation of the inside of the weld (the weld root) thus eliminating one of the causes for porosity and subsequent weld fracture.
