R&D capability extended with new compression tester

Article Type: Mini features From: Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology: An International Journal, Volume 80, Issue 5

KnitMesh Technologies, the UK specialist knitted wire design, development and manufacturing company, has invested in a state-of-the-art compression tester to further extend the levels of materials testing capability available to customers.

The model purchased will enable KnitMesh Technologies to collect a wealth of testing data and carry out compression testing, tensile testing, cyclic testing and fatigue testing to each customer’s most specific requirements.

Via use of a fully integrated modular software package, different knitted wire mesh structures can now be subjected to more rigorous real-time testing, with exceptionally simple data verification. Additionally, KnitMesh customers will also benefit from greater levels of reporting.

Comments KnitMesh Technologies’ General Manager, Peter Evans, “This latest investment in materials testing technology will bring significant benefits to all customers who wish to investigate how virtually any knitted wire mesh structure will perform under a load or cyclical conditions. It, also, further underlines our credentials as technological leaders in the field of knitted wire development.”

Renowned for the development of innovative solutions to some of industry’s most challenging problems, KnitMesh Technologies already operates an industry-leading R&D facility from its headquarters near Chester, UK. The new compression tester follows on from the knitted wire specialist’s recent investment in a range of technologies, most notably advanced flow-test facilities, and fatigue test equipment enabling the performance of mesh solutions to be tested up to 1,000°C over millions of cycles.

Together, these new capabilities will, it is claimed, enable KnitMesh Technologies’ customers to increase their product knowledge and make component testing more cost-effective and convenient.
