Article Type: News and views From: Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology: An International Journal, Volume 81, Issue 2

After less than two years from the Grand Opening of a major extension to the Swedish plant and addition of a new Showroom, which doubled the manufacturing floor area, so meteoric has been market demand worldwide for WJS machines, that yet another Grand Opening took place which doubled yet again the size of the plant and production capacity (Figure 1).

This was to mark the commissioning of a third new building, which adds a further 2,000 m2 to the overall manufacturing facility. Total investment for this latest factory expansion amounted to more than 20 million Swedish Kroners.

The Grand Opening marked also the launch of a host of further new machines and technological developments which were on show, including as follows:

  • A new model NC 3520S five-axis, destined for Russia, featuring the Fanuc 3001 CNC system with a mix of servos for horizontal positioning along the X-axis (across the bed), along the Y-axis by ballscrews driven by Alpha i servo drives; and cutting head nozzle height controlled by Beta i servo.

  • New Technology for incorporating across the range of standard machines, such as systems for advanced computer control, five-axis operations, linear motors for unmanned operations, cutting head nozzle anti-collision prevention, nozzle height setting, etc.
