The Librarian's Online Support Team

The Librarian's Online Support Team (LOST) is a an organisation that is coordinated by a steering committee consisting of academic, research, public, and K-12 librarians from various locations. The group provides space for librarians, many of whom are being thrust into cyberspace with minimal training and support, to find both formal and informal instruction and mentoring. Librarians with varying levels of expertise can meet to share ideas and experiences informally. The group is based at the virtual campus of Diversity University, a cyberspace location that offers both real-time and delayed interaction via computer and currently supports over 4000 educators and students worldwide.

LOST regularly sponsors free online professional development workshops available to library personnel with Internet capability. The most recent of these has dealt with library services and instruction for distance learners and offered an opportunity for the exchange of experiences and ideas between librarians from around the world.

Information about LOST and its programmes can be found at: http://admin.gnacademy.org:8001/~lost . Or you can send an e-mail to Isabel Danforth at danforth@tiac.net .
